Our Pastor

It is our joy and pleasure to welcome you to the Garst Mill Orthodox Presbyterian Church website. If you would like more information please call the church at 540-774-8281 or send an email to the ministerial advisor at (GarstMillPres@gmail.com). Better yet, we would encourage you to visit us on the Lord’s Day, so we can worship our God together!

We are confident that you will find here at Garst Mill Presbyterian a warm and joyous body of believers. There is an enthusiasm for our Savior, happiness in being able to serve Him together, and an unmistakable love for one another in Christ Jesus. A group of Christians like these provoked one person in the early years of the Christian church to observe that “Christians do love one another before they are acquainted—if they but know that they are Christians.”

Another characteristic which is soon obvious is that our church takes the things of God seriously. We are a people who not only say that God is important, but seek to behave so as to reflect that importance. Our worship is simple and conducted with solemnity; it is also joyful. We are aware that we are meeting with God Himself, and we come confident of His blessings because of our Savior Jesus Christ.

The Bible, God’s Word, is greatly loved by us. We do not worship the book, but we look to what God has revealed so that we will know God, know how to worship Him, know how He has given salvation, and know how to serve Him. We invite you to come and study the Bible with us!

About Our Former Pastor

The Rev. Rodney T. King is now Pastor Emeritus of Garst Mill Presbyterian Church, Roanoke, VA:  The Reverend King was installed by the Orthodox Presbyterian Church (OPC) as Pastor of Garst Mill Presbyterian Church on November 30, 2012 and retired on July 1, 2018 and preached his last sermon for our church on August 5, 2018.

Since his graduation in 1974 from Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, Mississippi, Rev. King served as pastor of churches in SC, NC, AZ and WV in the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) denomination until February 1997. At that time he was received into the Orthodox Presbyterian Church (OPC) where he served as pastor of Grace Reformed Presbyterian Church in Des Moines, Iowa for over 15 years before coming to pastor the congregation of Garst Mill Presbyterian Church. He has been on several short term mission trips to Uganda, and also served on various denominational committees.

Having grown up in North Carolina and received his college education in Bristol, TN and at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill NC., this part of the country is very familiar both to him, and to his wife, Anne (McLean) King. Pastor King says, “It is wonderful to minister among a people who rejoice in the knowledge that we are saved entirely by God’s grace, and who join with the OPC in taking that Gospel out into the world!” Additionally he states, “It is a joy to come back to this region, where there are such deep roots of Presbyterianism and the Reformed faith. What a privilege to pastor only fifty miles from Stonewall Jackson’s home, and a hundred miles from Robert L. Dabney’s pastorate!”
